Partners gather in Brussels to plan next steps

On January 28, 2024, partners of the STAY! – Decreasing teenage dropout in sport project met in person in Brussels, Belgium to reflect on what’s been done so far and to plan the work ahead. It was a valuable chance to connect face-to-face, exchange ideas, and make sure everyone is moving in the same direction as the project enters a new phase.

What Was on the Agenda?

The meeting covered a bit of everything – from reviewing current progress to discussing how the next steps will unfold. Partners looked at the development of the E-learning platform, shared insights from research into why teens are leaving sport, and talked about how clubs and coaches can be better supported.

There was also time to look ahead: what kind of policies might make it easier for young people to stay in sport? What role can volunteering play in keeping teens engaged? And how can we make sure the pilot activities are practical, meaningful, and helpful for the people who will be using them?

Working Together for Long-Term Impact

Beyond the agenda, the meeting was a chance to build stronger working relationships. Talking in person helped partners understand each other’s perspectives better and made space for open conversations. Everyone left with a shared sense of purpose – to keep developing ideas and tools that make it easier for young people to enjoy sport, stay active, and feel supported.

What’s Next?

As the project moves forward, the focus is shifting more towards real-world application. In the coming months, partners will:

  • Work with clubs on using STAY! tools and methods
  • Add new content to the E-learning platform for athletes, coaches, and parents
  • Run pilot activities and gather feedback from those taking part

The project runs until May 2025, and while there’s still plenty to do, but this meeting in Brussels gave everyone a helpful boost and a clearer picture of how to get there – together.
