In this edition of our STAY! Interview Series, we meet Sarah Schorm, a dual-study student and coach at TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen. From social media and event planning to coaching and show-dance, Sarah’s journey shows how combining education and hands-on experience can create powerful personal growth and how the STAY project plays a key role in that.
Who are you and what’s your role at the club?
My name is Sarah Schorm, and I’m completing a dual degree in Kids & Youth Sports. I handle social-media content, organise children’s birthday parties, and gain hands-on coaching experience.

What sport are you personally passionate about?
Show-dance, better known as the Carnival stage style, and I also keep fit in the gym.
How did you move from a voluntary year to a dual-study position?
After my voluntary year (FSJ) at TSV I asked about a dual programme. The club supported me, letting me discover new areas and take on real responsibility.
What was your personal highlight in the STAY project?
The Kids’ Carnival! We dual-study students spent months creating our own show act. Seeing the routine run perfectly on stage was the event’s absolute highlight for me.
How does the STAY project shape your future in the club?
STAY gives me the platform to lead projects and grow as a coach. Long-term, I want to run my own dance group and this project is the perfect training ground.
What’s your advice to young athletes who feel like quitting?
Don’t give up! There are tough phases, but seeing kids’ eyes light up when they’re happy and learn something makes it all worthwhile. Those positive moments are priceless.
Why Sarah’s story matters
Sarah’s journey — from a voluntary social year to a dual-study programme and aspiring coach — embodies what the STAY project is all about: helping young people find purpose and belonging in sport, even when their competitive path changes.
Her experience reflects the importance of mentorship, practical opportunities, and supportive environments, which STAY promotes through pilots, education, and shared learning across Europe.
